Blood donation for the persons affected by the fire at Colectiv Club in Bucharest

In sign of solidarity with the persons affected by the tragedy that occurred at Colectiv Club in Bucharest, a group of 40 students of the Technical Military Academy of Bucharest have participated today, 02 November 2015, in a new blood donation campaign at Floreasca Emergency Hospital.

Today’s action has been coordinated by the volunteers of the Parekklesion (Chapel) of the Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedral and is a part of the campaign initiated by the Romanian Patriarchate: Donate blood! Save a life!

“Every person should donate blood at least once in a lifetime because this thing represents a civic duty. We never know when we can find ourselves in extreme situations and could need blood, therefore such tragedies shouldn’t represent the only occasions when blood is donated”, Rareş, a student of the Technical Military Academy of Bucharest, confessed.

We wholeheartedly hope that the persons affected by the tragedy which took place at Colectiv Club in Bucharest will recover. We want to transmit that we support them and we urge the others to follow our example. We congratulate the doctors and paramedics who have promptly intervened in the rescue of the persons affected by the fire at Colectiv Club”, George, a volunteer of the Parekklesion, said.

The Campaign of the Romanian Patriarchate “Donate Blood! Save a Life!” comes to meet the acute need for blood in the Romanian Health System. There is a well-developed database, so we can say with certainty that 15,000 persons have donated blood until now, which means 7 tons of blood. We are glad about this quantity, because everything was done for the benefit of the suffering. Besides Bucharest, the campaign expanded to the whole country. The idea of volunteering is closely linked to the concept of Christian mercifulness. A donor saves three lives. In Romania, medicine has advanced very much, and surgical operations need more blood; for this reason this campaign will continue in the future, V. Rev. Archimandrite Ciprian Grădinaru, servant at the Parekklesion of the National Cathedral, declared for TV TRINITAS.

The current blood donation is the 9th edition of the national campaign Donate Blood! Save a Life! Organized by the Romanian Patriarchate.
