Presentation visit of the Croatian Ambassador to Bucharest at the Romanian Patriarchate

His Beatitude Romanian Patriarch Daniel received the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Bucharest, His Excellency Mr Davor Vidiš, on a presentation visit, at the Patriarchal Residence, on 16 December 2015.

The Croatian Ambassador thanked for the reception and underlined the importance of Church mission in protecting and promoting Christian values in today’s European society. In this context, His Excellency has appreciated the important role of the Romanian Orthodox Church in the Romanian society, manifesting his interest in the situation of the Romanian Orthodox Church during the communist regime, but also in her activity carried out after 1990.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel noted the difficult context in which the Romanian Orthodox Church had to carry out her mission for almost 50 years of communism in Romania, and also presented different aspects of today’s mission of the Church. In this respect, the Patriarch of Romania emphasized the fact that one of today’s priorities of the Church is represented by the intensification of the social work and the identification of proper pastoral and missionary solutions to new phenomena, such as the migration of Romanians to the West and the establishment of Romanian Orthodox communities abroad. Nevertheless, in Romania, many children of the Romanians who work abroad are exposed to the risk of school dropout.

During the meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel pointed out the importance of dialogue within the Consultative Council of Religious Denominations in Romania, by adopting common views and by practical cooperation in safeguarding the values of life and human dignity, the institution of family and in promoting social peace.

The future possibility of organizing pilgrimages to the religious and art monuments in Croatia was also mentioned.
