Saturday, 15 December 2012, the vocal instrumental group named “Gura izvorului” (the spring mouth) carolled the Patriarch of Romania. The carollers from the Secondary School of Vatra Moldovitei, Suceava, were headed by the director of the institution, Mr Traian Pusca and by Prof. Ilaria Pusca. Traditional carols were sung as well as some other ones typical for the area.
His Beatitude congratulated them for having kept the Romanian traditions: “We were very glad for having seen this year, too, the special richness of the Bucovina chants at Christmas and New Year’ time. Bucovina is really a garden of the nature’s beauty, as well as of the folk culture stemmed from the Christian faith. We congratulate you for having come such a long distance on such weather when in Bucovina and Moldova it is much snow, snowing, and blizzard, but the strong faith and love for the Romanian Christian folk traditions is very vivid; this tradition of Bucovina is an example, a model for all the country and, as we have already shown, it is a very nice thing that the beauty of nature inspired the beauty of the culture of Bucovina.
“We were very glad to come to the Patriarchate to present winter feast customs. The group is made up of teachers, pupils, parents and grandparents of the school children, inhabitants of the three villages of Vatra Moldovitei commune”, said prof. Ilaria Pusca.
To end with, the Patriarch of Romania offered presents to the carollers.
