Together with the Romanian hierarch also served Archimandrite Calinic Covaci, administrative-ecclesiastical adviser of the Diocese, Fr Florin Olteanu, Dean of Gyula and parish priest in Kétegyháza, and Deacon Emanuel Văduva; the liturgical responses were given by the nuns of the Diocesan Centre.

In his sermon, His Grace Bishop Siluan expressed his joy for properly celebrating at this wooden parekklesion of Gyula, dedicated to the Protection of the Theotokos and the St Silouan the Athonite, the memory of the Russian monastic, who lived a simple life, from many points of view, but who deep in his soul followed with much humbleness the laborious but blessed way of sanctification, acquiring the grace of the Holy Spirit and showing himself to be a teacher of divine love for many humans and peoples, who found and loved St Silouan the Athonite, especially through his writings, which were brought to light by his apprentice, Fr Sophronius Sakharov, former Abbot of Essex Monastery, in England.

St Silouan’s importance for today’s world is even greater because of the incredible trials that he went through, but which he had also surpassed through God’s grace, much perseverance and patience, and which made him able to experience and to convey to people an inspired teaching revealed by Christ our Lord, a word that inspires hope in our difficult times: “Keep thy mind in hell and despair not”!
