The medical staff has also given specialised advice in promoting real education for good health. The event was held at Adam Monastery and included in the “Good Health for Villages” programme organised by the Eparchy of Lower Danube in partnership with the Christian Orthodox Physicians’ Association of Romania – Rev. Fr. Gabriel Molocea, mass-media counsellor of the Eparchy of Lower Danube informs.

On 8 April 2016, an extended spiritual and social-philanthropic programme both for the monastic community and for the pilgrims present at the monastery was held at Adam Monastery, county of Galaţi, at the initiative, with the blessing, and in the presence of His Eminence Casian, Archbishop of Lower Danube.

The programme began with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy of the pre-sanctified gifts by a group of priests from the deanery of Târgu Bujor, after which the hierarch of Lower Danube celebrated the Sacrament of the Holy Unction. Then, the Hierarch of Lower Danube celebrated the tonsuring into monasticism for two sisters of the community of Adam Monastery.

Besides the pilgrims from the neighbouring villages and from the counties of Vaslui, Iaşi and Suceava present at the monastery, 2 physicians and 4 medical assistants from Galaţi branch of the Christian Orthodox Physicians’ Association of Romania participated. Three students from the last years of study at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the city helped them to provide medical consultations, verify the blood pressure and glycaemia of the faithful present at the monastery. The medical staff has also provided specialised advice in promoting real education for good health.

“While present at the church of the “Falling Asleep of the Mother of God”, within Adam Monastery, His Eminence Archbishop Casian said “three special events gratified us a lot: first, the common celebration with the priests from the poor villages from the North of Galaţi county, adorned with the their beautiful celebration and youth. Then, God gave us two new nuns, Magdalena and Macrina who have really enriched this community of the monastery. Thirdly, we better understood through the Sacrament of the Holy Unction the relationship between the healing of the soul at the “Icon of the Mother of God – Miracle Worker” and the healing of the body because it was here, about the year 1800 that the presence of the first hospital for patients suffering from various incurable diseases is mentioned. This is why the volunteer physicians involved in “Good Health for Villages” programme joined us, thinking first of the children and aged persons. We express our hope and confidence that this programme will continue in all our monasteries and parishes so that we may climb, together with Saint John Climacus, the high ladder of the love for our fellow human beings and meet Christ, our Lord”.

The initiative of the physicians of Galaţi is included in the “Good Health for Villages” programme organised by the Eparchy of Lower Danube in partnership with the Christian Orthodox Physicians’ Association of Romania, this year under the motto “Spiritual good health for the physical good health of our fellow human beings in front of the icon of the Mother of God – Miracle Worker, from Adam Monastery”.

*

Adam Monastery dedicated to the “Falling Asleep of the Mother of God” and to the “Healing Spring” is located in the centre of Adam locality, on the plateau called “Apărătura” (Protection), 29 km from the city of Bârlad and 40 km from the city of Tecuci.

Friday, 8 April 2016, two physicians and 3 medical assistants from Galaţi branch of the Christian Orthodox Physicians’ Association of Romania provided free medical consultations.
