A New York City\u00a0church destroyed on 9\/11\u00a0is finally being rebuilt across from the World Trade Center.<\/h4>\n

The new\u00a0St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church\u00a0is going up in Liberty Park, just to the east of where the\u00a0old church\u00a0stood for 85 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe original\u00a0St. Nicholas\u00a0was fully destroyed, and really crushed by the South Tower,\u201d said Jerry Dimitriou, executive director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.<\/p>\n

The church\u2019s distinctive dome has been installed as have the blast proof concrete columns.<\/p>\n

Soon the church will be cloaked in marble.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the marble in this church is coming from Greece. It\u2019s all from the same vein of marble that was used to build the Parthenon 2.5 thousand years ago. It\u2019s the Pentelic marble,\u201d Dimitriou said.<\/p>\n

Visitors of all faiths will be welcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cCertainly because of the lives lost on 9\/11, this place has a tremendous amount of meaning both for the Orthodox church, for all Christians and for the whole world,\u201d Dimitriou said. \u201cWe want them to feel at peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The $52 million project should be finished by next October.<\/p>\n
