{"id":195819,"date":"2018-06-07T12:49:10","date_gmt":"2018-06-07T09:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=195819"},"modified":"2018-06-07T12:50:06","modified_gmt":"2018-06-07T09:50:06","slug":"ecumenical-patriarch-declares-elder-iakovos-tsalikis-a-saint-in-a-ceremony-in-evia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiva.basilica.ro\/en\/ecumenical-patriarch-declares-elder-iakovos-tsalikis-a-saint-in-a-ceremony-in-evia\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecumenical Patriarch declares Elder Iakovos Tsalikis a Saint in a ceremony in Evia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Thousands of believers from Greece, Australia, Germany and other countries attended the canonization ceremony of Elder Iakovos Tsalikis held on June 2-3, 2018, at St David Monastery in Evia led by His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Metropolis of Chalkida organized a series of events occasioned by the official announcement of numbering the former abbot of St David\u2019s Monastery in the island of Evia, Archimandrite Iakovos Tsalikis, among the choirs of Saints.<\/p>\n<p>Elder Iakovos Tsalikis, the newest saint glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, is one of the contemporary charismatic elders known throughout the Christian world for their virtues and ascetic life.<\/p>\n<p>His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew attended Saturday, June 2, the Great Vespers during which the Synodal and Patriarchal Act on the Canonization of Venerable Iakovos was read out.<\/p>\n<p>Although initially Archbishop Ieronymus of Athens announced his participation, he did not attend the event but sent a message which was read out during the Vespers service.<\/p>\n<h4>\u2018A torch that burned for the whole world\u2019<\/h4>\n<p>In his homily during the Sunday Divine Liturgy, Patriarch Bartholomew referred to Elder Iakovos saying that \u2018he is a contemporary saint of our days, who experienced the uprooting of Hellenism from Asia Minor and felt the bitter experience of a refugee.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He always knocked at the door for justice, the protection of the young and the poor. He was a torch that burned continuously for the whole world,\u2019 the Ecumenical Patriarch added.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The humble hieromonk with a fragile health, the nobleman with the proverbial \u2018forgive me\u2019, was a great benefactor of all Orthodox.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We celebrate the canonization of Iakovos, one of the greatest pillars of virtue,\u2019 His Holiness stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The festivities were attended by state officials.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ob__fEVoS3M?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4>Elder Iakovos Tsalikis: biography<\/h4>\n<p>Elder Iakovos lived for 40 years at St David\u2019s Monastery in Evia. He was born on Nov. 5, 1920 in Asia Minor. At the age of 32 he was tonsured a monk.
