The Very Rev. Archimandrite Zacharias Zacharou spoke Tuesday evening about universal priesthood during a conference held at the Bucharest Faculty of Orthodox Theology.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Since the beginning and the end of all things is Jesus Christ, we always begin by invoking his name and making the sign of the Holy Cross,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Archimandrite Zacharias shared with those present his lifetime experience.<\/p>\n

He offered a definition for \u2018what man is, what is destination is, and how can this destination be achieved.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Man was made by God in a very special way, having a unique heart to be able to know God with his heart, and that the heart become the centre of God\u2019s attraction.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Every person baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, is a partaker of Christ\u2019s priesthood, meaning that they are priests for their own salvation, but also they contribute to the salvation of the world,\u2019 Fr Zacharias said October 2 in Bucharest.<\/p>\n

At the end of the conference, the Romanian translation of Fr Zacharias\u2019s new book \u2018The Eternal Today\u2019 was officially launched.<\/p>\n

Fr Zacharias, who is a disciple of Elder Sophrony and a spiritual grandson of Saint Silouan the Athonite, referred to the purpose of Christian life and to our calling to follow God.<\/p>\n

Fr Zacharias Zacharou<\/h4>\n

The Very Rev. Archimandrite Zacharias Zacharou is a monk of over 40 years in the Patriarchal Stavropegic Monastery of St John the Baptist in Essex, England, a disciple of Elder Sophrony, and a spiritual grandson of Saint Silouan the Athonite.<\/p>\n

He studied theology in Paris and Thessalonica, and is fluent in Greek, Russian, French and English.<\/p>\n

While studying for his PhD, Fr Zacharias wrote his doctoral thesis entitled \u2018Christ, Our Way and Our Life\u2019.<\/p>\n

He has since published many books in multiple languages, and has extensively lectured internationally.<\/p>\n
