published on its website<\/a>, requests that developers of the SQLite programme \u2014 though not its users \u2014 adhere to \u201cthe instruments of good works\u201d in\u00a0Chapter 4 of the Rule, Church Times reports.<\/p>\nThe Rule was written by St Benedict in Rome in the fifth century. His list of 72 precepts begins by summarising the commandments of Jesus to \u201cLove the Lord God with your whole heart, your whole soul, and your whole strength\u201d, followed by \u201cLove your neighbour as yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other duties on the list include: fear the Day of Judgement; visit the sick and bury the dead; do not murder, steal, or commit adultery; \u201cutter only truth from heart and mouth\u201d; \u201cbe not a great eater\u201d; and \u201cknow for certain that God sees you everywhere\u201d.<\/p>\n
The company \u2014 which refers to the \u201cSQLite community\u201d \u2014 explains: \u201cThis code of conduct has proven its mettle in thousands of diverse communities for over 1500 years, and has served as a baseline for many civil law codes since the time of Charlemagne.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the company accepts that the Rule cannot apply to users of the programme, its public forums, or mailing lists, it says: \u201cComments posted on mailing lists or forums are expected to be courteous and professional, and should be worded as if they were written by someone who is a follower of this rule.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn other words, while participating in the SQLite community, one should speak only the truth in love, honour all, be not angry nor nurse a grudge, do not return evil for evil, be not proud nor a grumbler nor a detractor, avoid depraved speech, hate no one, do not love quarrelling, and so forth\u201d.<\/p>\n
