Photographs of inhabitants of rural Romania are set to go on display in Bucharest as a new exhibition, titled The Portrait of the Romanian Village<\/em> to highlight this year\u2019s specific theme given by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, opens this month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pictures, some of which haven\u2019t been printed or exhibited before, were taken by the Basilica.ro photographers Raluca Ene and Mircea Florescu, as well as by other Romanian photographers who spent weeks, months and even years photographing the iconic parts of Romania\u2019s villages.<\/p>\n

The surnamed photographer of the Romanian Village<\/em>, Sorin Onisor<\/a>, and a well-known National Geographic collaborator Mioara Chiparus<\/a> have accepted the invitation of the Basilica.ro team to highlight the beauty of the Romanian village.<\/p>\n

Other pictures are signed by Andreea Acatrinei, Gina Buliga, Mirela Dragita, Daniel Ghindea, Daniel Mandache, Cezar Gabriel Popescu, Silviu Florin Salomia, Ionut Tanciu and Madalina Ursu.<\/p>\n

The Portrait of the Romanian Village <\/em>opens at the Palace of the Patriarchate with a preview on February 27 and runs until March 9, 2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Romanian villages, with rustic churches and houses, with cemeteries and graves flanked by crosses, with welcoming streets and gates, are the bearers of a mystical and visible language of tradition, of the physical and spiritual continuity of this nation. They are mirrors of the Romanian soul, in which we can observe today our diligence or procrastination, our responsibility or indifference, as the case may be,\u2019 Patriarch Daniel said on Jan. 1 at the Patriarchal Cathedral.<\/p>\n

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church declared 2019 as Solemn Year of the Romanian Village (of diligent priests, teachers, and mayors), and Commemorative Year of Patriarchs Nicodim Munteanu and Justin Moisescu, and of the translators of church books.<\/p>\n
