Marking the beginning of the Ecclesiastical New Year on Sunday, the patriarchal auxiliary bishop Ieronim of Sinaia officiated a Doxology at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest invoking God\u2019s help and blessings upon the entire Church.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Te Deum service was attended by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, who wished everyone \u2018many years with good health, salvation, joy and much help from God\u2019.<\/p>\n

The first day of the Church New Year is also called the beginning of the Indiction. The term Indiction comes from a Latin word meaning, \u201cto impose.\u201d It was originally applied to the imposition of taxes in Egypt.<\/p>\n

The first worldwide Indiction was in 312 when the Emperor Constantine (May 21) saw a miraculous vision of the Cross in the sky. Before the introduction of the Julian calendar, Rome began the New Year on September 1.<\/p>\n
