International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is celebrated across the globe every year on 17 October to raise awareness about the people who are struggling and living in poverty. It is necessary to remove poverty mainly in developing countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As we know that poverty has many faces, it changes from place to place. For some poverty is hunger, lack of shelter, being sick or not having enough money, etc. Basically, poverty is a state or condition in which a person lacks financial resources and not able to fulfil basic needs.<\/p>\n

Poverty-stricken people and families live without a home, clean water, healthy food, and medical attention. Therefore, International Day for the Eradication of Poverty highlights the problems faced by the poverty-stricken people or families and work towards eradicating poverty globally in all its forms.<\/p>\n

The theme of International for the Eradication of Poverty 2019 is \u201cActing together to empower children, their families and communities to end poverty\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to UN “The day presents an opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concerns heard and a moment to recognise that poor people are the first ones to fight against poverty”.<\/p>\n

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption\u00a0of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)\u00a0on 20 November 1989. This landmark human\u00a0rights treaty sets out the civil, political, economic,\u00a0social and cultural rights of every child, regardless of\u00a0their race, religion or abilities.<\/p>\n

In particular, the Convention recognizes the right of every child to a standard of living adequate for the child\u2019s physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social\u00a0development. Poverty hurts children\u2019s development\u00a0and, in turn, leads to lower income and health\u00a0in adulthood. When child poverty is recognized as a\u00a0denial of children\u2019s human rights then people in positions\u00a0of responsibility and power are legally bound to promote, protect and fulfil children\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

Above all, it is imperative to recognize and address\u00a0the specific discriminations experienced by the girl child.<\/p>\n
