The Bishops\u2019 Council of the Polish Church, involving every hierarch of the Church, gathered in Warsaw on Tuesday, October 29, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, to discuss a number of issues, including the veneration of a group of 30 martyrs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0communiqu\u00e9<\/a> from the session quoted by Orthochristian states:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor greater clarity for the faithful regarding the veneration of the wagoner martyrs of the Podlasie land, it was decided to including their names among the Martyrs of Che\u0142m and Podlasie. Their commemoration is set for the day of the Zalesza\u0144ska Icon of the Mother of God, i.e., the last Saturday of July.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Orthodox peasants suffered for Christ on January 31, 1946 in the forest near the village of Pucha\u0142y Stare in northeastern Poland at the hands of an emergency operation of the National Military Union under the command of Romuald Rajs.<\/p>\n

Under Rajs\u2019 command, the unit reached the village of \u0141ozice on January 27, where a number of peasants with the best horses and carts were detained, to act as a transport unit. On January 31, the unit reached Pucha\u0142y Stare, where it shot 30 detained wagoners.<\/p>\n

The 30 martyrs are: Bilewski Wasyl; Bondaruk Aleksander; Bondaruk Micha\u0142; Chwaszczewski \u0141ukasz; Dmitruk Aleksander; Dmitruk Grzegorz; Golonko Aleksy; Grygoruk Wasyl; Grygoruk Grzegorz; Jakimiuk Jan; Jakimiuk Teodor; Jaku\u0107 Micha\u0142; Juszczuk Jan; Juziuczuk Aleksander; Kendy\u015b Piotr; Kot W\u0142odzimierz; Laszkiewicz Micha\u0142; \u0141awrynowicz Grzegorz; \u0141awrynowicz Jan; \u0141ukaszuk Teodor; Maksymiuk Aleksander; Nazaruk Nikifor; Niczyporuk Micha\u0142; Pietruczuk Grzegorz; Sawczuk Wasyl; Siemieniuk Teodor; Szadejko Miko\u0142aj; Szewczuk W\u0142odzimierz; Tadeuszuk Nikifor; Tarasiuk Jan.<\/p>\n
