For them and for all national martyrs, the Romanian Orthodox Church offers prayers with gratitude. In their remembrance, we invite you to have a moment of silence,\u2019 presenter Catalin Sava said opening the Romanian Patriarchate\u2019s annual Christmas carol concert &#8216;The Orient from on High&#8217; on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The audience remained silent as a token of gratitude and honour to the martyrs of the Romanian people.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty years ago, the first Romanians died in Timisoara for national freedom. \u2018The calmness of our freedom today cost us a lot,\u2019 Catalin Sava said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fbasilica.ro%2Fvideos%2F990569371306653%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Performing at the concert were the choir of the \u2018Metropolitan Nifon\u2019 Orthodox Theological Seminary in Bucharest and the Tronos Byzantine Choir of the Patriarchal Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>After the concert, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel spoke about the Romanian village as an environment that expresses the joy of Christmas through carols.<\/p>\n<p>The event concluded by having all those present singing along the most famous Romanian carol \u2018O, what wonderful tidings\u2019 (O, ce veste minunat\u0103).<\/p>\n<p>The concert was organized by the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate.<\/p>\n<p>Photography courtesy of Basilica.ro<\/p>\n<p>Follow us on Twitter: @BasilicaNews<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018The over 1,000 heroes who died 30 years ago are spiritual founders of the National Cathedral.
