{"id":268292,"date":"2020-01-14T12:11:30","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T10:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=268292"},"modified":"2020-01-14T12:11:30","modified_gmt":"2020-01-14T10:11:30","slug":"this-is-how-romanians-in-zagreb-celebrated-theophany-by-fasting-and-prayer-we-untie-the-saviours-sandals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiva.basilica.ro\/en\/this-is-how-romanians-in-zagreb-celebrated-theophany-by-fasting-and-prayer-we-untie-the-saviours-sandals\/","title":{"rendered":"This is how Romanians in Zagreb celebrated Theophany: \u201cBy fasting and prayer we untie the Saviour\u2019s sandals\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On the feast of Theophany, Father Nicolae Ceruta explained to the Romanians in Zagreb the meaning of the untying of the sandals of Christ\u2019s feet, a sentence used by Saint John the Forerunner to describe his humble approach to the Saviour.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018To untie someone\u2019s sandals is on one hand an act of humility, and on the other hand an invitation to rest,\u2019 said Fr Nicolae Ceruta, the parish priest of the Romanian Orthodox community in the Croatian capital.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Saint John the Baptist, an ascetic par excellence, did not see himself worthy to rest with God.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The gospel passage urges us to be diligent to wait for Theophany like saint John, with fasting and prayer, and thus to untie the straps of the sandals of Christ the Saviour so that He may rest with us on this great day of Theophany, and from here in our entire life,\u2019 Fr Nicolae said Jan. 6, 2020.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_267682\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-267682\" style=\"width: 890px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-267682 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2020-01-07-at-22.00.26-890x529.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"890\" height=\"529\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-267682\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Following the divine services, Fr.
