{"id":268731,"date":"2020-01-17T21:11:23","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T19:11:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=268731"},"modified":"2020-01-17T21:11:23","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T19:11:23","slug":"over-9000-churches-christian-buildings-attacked-in-past-year-open-doors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiva.basilica.ro\/en\/over-9000-churches-christian-buildings-attacked-in-past-year-open-doors\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 9,000 Churches, Christian Buildings Attacked in Past Year: Open Doors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Leading Christian persecution watchdog nongovernmental organization Open Doors USA released it\u2019s 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendoorsusa.org\/world-watch-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">World Watch List<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday, an influential annual data report that this year highlights a drastic increase in attacks against Christian buildings and the imprisonment of Christians.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The report, first launched in 1992, ranks the worst 50 countries in the world when it comes to the persecution of Christians and is based on data compiled by Open Doors\u2019 operations in 60 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The report finds that about 260 million Christians experience \u201chigh levels of persecution\u201d in the top 50 countries on the list, an increase of about 6 percent from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opendoorsusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/WWL2019_FullBooklet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">2019 report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report also states that 9,488 \u201cchurches or Christian buildings\u201d \u2014 or an average of 25 per day \u2014 were attacked during the 2019 reporting period (Nov. 1, 2018, to Oct. 31, 2019). By comparison, Open Doors\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/worst-50-places-for-christians-ranked-in-2019-world-watch-list-india-in-top-10-for-first-time.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">noted<\/a>\u00a0in last year\u2019s report that 1,266 churches or Christian buildings were attacked.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the number of Christians detained without trial, arrested and imprisoned increased from 2,625 in the 2019 report to 3,711 in the 2020 report.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 report, however, indicates a decrease in the number of Christians killed for their faith. At least 2,983 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons during the last reporting period. That is an average of eight Christians killed per day.
