      \nand we glorify your holy dormition now,
      \nas we bow before your honored precious tomb.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. In your womb you held him
        \nwho cannot be contained;
        \nyou are life to all the faithful: how can you die,
        \nand your body be contained within a tomb?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        1. You brought forth, Pure Maiden,
          \nGod the heavenly King,
          \nand today in manner royal are carried forth
          \nto the Kingdom of the Heavens as a Queen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            \nYou have passed from this world,
            \nin departing not forsaking those left on earth,

              \nwith all reverence, O Master, we also praise

                      \nwhere the awesome unapproachable Light shines forth

                        \nYou were not, O Theotokos, removed from God,

                          \nuncorrupted by decay as you lay entombed

                                                                                                                                                                          This translation by Nancy Chalker Takis (www.newbyz.org<\/a>) employs the exact metrical pattern of the original Greek text and can be applied to any of the traditional Byzantine melodies. The translation is dedicated to the nuns of the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God Monastery in Rives Junction, Michigan.<\/p>\n
