His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel consecrated the “Resurrection of the Lord” Diocesan Cathedral in Oradea on Sunday. The service was part of a series of events celebrating the 340th<\/sup> anniversary of the first documentary attestation of the Diocese of Oradea, 325 years since the diocese and its hierarch were mentioned in the Diploma of the Austrian Emperor Leopold I and 100 years since the re-establishment of the diocese after the Great Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On this occasion, the Patriarch of Romania made a canonical visit to the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Oradea.<\/p>\n

The day began with the Divine Liturgy presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Lauren\u021biu of Transylvania, in the new place of worship located near the walls of the old Oradea Fortress.<\/p>\n

At 11:00, Patriarch Daniel officiated the consecration service of the new Diocesan Cathedral, having as concelebrants 20 other hierarchs. The holy place is dedicated to the “Resurrection of the Lord” and Saint Andrew Saguna, Metropolitan of Transylvania.<\/p>\n

The new Orthodox cathedral in Oradea is the fulfilment of the efforts of the hierarchs who pastored the diocese, starting with Roman Ciorogariu, the founding Bishop of the reactivated Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Oradea (1920-1936). The foundation stone was laid by Patriarch Teoctist Ar\u0103pa\u015fu of blessed memory in 1995.<\/p>\n
