The pro-life organization <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/oclife.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Orthodox Christians for Life<\/strong><\/a><strong> and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/myocn.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Orthodox Christian Network<\/strong><\/a><strong>, the agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America (ACOB-US), have already created the event on <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/517683142192909\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Facebook<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Orthodox hierarchs have lately been constantly invited to get involved in the most important moments of the annual March for Life held in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oca.org\/news\/headline-news\/metropolitan-tikhon-to-deliver-opening-prayer-at-45th-dc-march-for-life-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2018<\/a>, at the invitation of the organizers, Metropolitan Tikhon of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) was delegated by ACOB-US to offer the event\u2019s opening prayer.<\/p>\n<p>On January 20, a few days before this year\u2019s march, the Orthodox Church in America marked the Sanctity of Life Sunday in all the parishes, through special <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oca.org\/orthodoxy\/prayers\/sanctity-of-life-petitions-and-prayers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">petitions<\/a> and prayers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_294953\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-294953\" style=\"width: 1100px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-294953 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/80704503_2836182469753704_5517098264391843840_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1100\" height=\"717\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-294953\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Metropolitan Tikhon at the 2020 March for Life in Washington, DC. Photo: OCA.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At this year\u2019s march, Metropolitan Tikhon officiated a special religious service for the victims of abortion and held a short <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/orthodoxchurchinamerica\/posts\/2832532203452064\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">speech<\/a>, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBy our presence here, we show our government leaders that the Orthodox Church stands firmly with our forefathers throughout the ages on the side of life. As I said this morning after the Divine Liturgy, we proclaim life with the Defender of Life, our Lord Jesus Christ. We firmly proclaim life from the moment of conception to the end of life and urge our nation to proclaim the same truth. We show our nation that we can allow no excuse for abortion. Photo: OCA.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>The March for Life, a human rights movement<\/h3>\n<p>The first edition of the March for Life in Washington, DC was held in 1973, immediately after the legalization of abortion on demand throughout the US.<\/p>\n<p>As the decision was given by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on January 22, the event is organized annually around this date.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of life from all over America brace the cold to come to the nation\u2019s Capital city and ask their legislators to protect the unborn children\u2019s right to life starting from conception.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_294957\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-294957\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-294957 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/10922472_786853081393635_5316776107223976174_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-294957\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The first edition of the Washington March for Life was held in 1973, the year when abortion was legalized in the US. Photo: Facebook \/ March for Life<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In time, the March for Life has become a global movement, from Argentina and Peru, where millions of participants take to the streets, to Japan. In Romania, the first March for Life was organized in the western city of Timi\u0219oara in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Starting from 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marsulpentruviata.ro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The March for Life Romania and the Republic of Moldova<\/a> is simultaneously organized in hundreds of cities and towns around the date of March 25, which is the feast of the Annunciation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_294961\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-294961\" style=\"width: 2048px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-294961 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/header-site-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1221\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-294961\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 2017 March for Life in Bucharest.
