“Roma Liberation Day” (February 20) was marked last Friday at “Ion Creanga” school in T\u00e2rgu Frumos with a series of cultural activities, Doxologia reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ana Maria Doleanu, inspector for minorities – Ia\u015fi County Inspectorate, explained to those present that “discrimination hurts, and children should not know this pain.”<\/p>\n

“It is necessary to know the history of the minorities around us, learn to appreciate people, correct, if possible, behaviours and attitudes. Today, the students had a life lesson, beautifully said, from the heart to soul,” Ana Maria Doleanu said.<\/p>\n

In compliance with sanitary norms, the event was attended by 30 students from the 7th and 8th grades, most of them from the Roma community.<\/p>\n

Father Alexandru Baciu, referent at the Minorities Department of the Archdiocese of Ia\u015fi, made a presentation of the subject from a historical perspective. Artist Alexandra Bulancea performed the Roma anthem, \u201cD\u017eel\u00e9m d\u017eel\u00e9m lung\u00f3ne drom\u00e9ntsa\u201d, the traditional Roma song, \u201cEderlezi\u201d and a Romanian doina.<\/p>\n

The second part included a lecture by writer Lenu\u021ba Neac\u0219u, who highlighted the importance of education in Roma students’ lives.<\/p>\n

“The life story of Mrs Lenu\u0163a Neac\u015fu was a lesson on how to become Baro Manu\u015b- an adult. Our students sipped every word to today’s guest. I tend to believe that the meeting changed something in their soul, whether it is an attitude, a thought or a promise for the future,” said deputy director Ana-Maria \u015etefan.<\/p>\n

The activity entitled “Together on the Day of Liberation”, in its second edition, was organized by the Department of Minorities of the Mission Sector of the Archdiocese of Iasi, in partnership with the Iasi County School Inspectorate.<\/p>\n
