In recent months, Romania has become the main transit gateway for migrants, most of them from Afghanistan, who are trying to reach the countries of Western Europe in search of a better life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than two-thirds of migrants crossing Romania are registered in the western city of Timisoara, many returning there after being accommodated in various centres in the country, hoping to move on.<\/p>\n

The Archdiocese of Timi\u0219oara and the Timi\u0219oara Filantropia Foundation, personally coordinated by Metropolitan Ioan, have already provided, several times, food and objects of a strict necessity for these people who suffer from hunger and cold.<\/p>\n

The last such action, organized with His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan of Banat’s care, took place last week. Hundreds of kilograms of various perishable and non-perishable foods were offered to migrants sheltered in Timisoara until their situation will be clarified.<\/p>\n

“Let’s get involved in supporting the joint efforts to help these brothers and sisters facing needs and wants”, the Archdiocese of Timisoara urged<\/a> at the beginning of Great Lent.<\/p>\n
