{"id":313178,"date":"2021-03-24T13:21:08","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T11:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=313178"},"modified":"2021-03-24T13:21:08","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T11:21:08","slug":"bulgarian-bachkovo-monastery-awarded-as-monastery-of-the-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiva.basilica.ro\/en\/bulgarian-bachkovo-monastery-awarded-as-monastery-of-the-decade\/","title":{"rendered":"Bulgarian Bachkovo Monastery awarded as \u201cMonastery of the Decade\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On March 19, the first Friday of Great Lent, the Holy Dormition Bachkovo Monastery of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church was solemnly awarded the title of \u201cMonastery of the Decade.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The honor was given as part of the large-scale \u201cWonders of Bulgaria\u201d campaign for the preservation and promotion of the national cultural and historical heritage, reports the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.<\/p>\n<p>Bachkovo Monastery, located 20 miles from Plovdiv, on the right bank of the Chepelare River, is the second-largest and second-most visited the monastery in the country. It was founded in 1083 by Prince Gregory Pakourianos and is known for its combination of Byzantine, Georgian, and Bulgarian culture.<\/p>\n<p>It is also home to a wonderworking icon of the Mother of God.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/image0.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313153\" src=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/image0.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The award was presented by the Bulgarian EU Commissioner Maria Gabriel to the abbot His Grace Bishop Zion of Velichka. \u201cWe are very happy with this high award, which is the result of the many works of the monastery\u2019s brotherhood, as well as of many decent Christians, helpers of the Bachkovo Monastery,\u201d His Grace said.<\/p>\n<p>The event was also attended by the Bulgarian Vice President and several other officials who expressed their joy and heartfelt admiration for the improvements to Bachkovo Monastery, especially the creation of facilities for welcoming and offering spiritual care to the many pilgrims who flock to the monastery from all over the country and the world.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the entire brotherhood, Bp.
