Slightly over 5.8 million foreigners resided in Spain at the end of 2020, and most of them were Romanians – over 1.07 million, according to official data released by the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, quoted by\u00a0G4media.ro<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These official figures refer to Romanian citizens with a declared residence in Spain, but, according to diplomatic sources consulted by G4Media.ro, the number could actually be much higher.<\/p>\n

Romanians are followed by Moroccans (811,530) and British citizens (381,448).<\/p>\n

According to the same statistics, the Romanian population in Spain increased by 0.9% compared to the previous year, and 47% of them were women. The average age of Romanian residents in Spain was 38 years. Source: G4media<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On July 1, 2020, the National Institute of Statistics estimated the population of Spain at 47,351,567 people.<\/p>\n

In order to support the Romanians in Spain, the Romanian Patriarchate established in 2007 the Diocese of Spain and Portugal.<\/p>\n

The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Spain and Portugal has 13 deaneries:<\/p>\n

    137 parishes<\/h5>\n

    According to the latest official statistics, the diocese includes 137 parishes, 22 non-parish churches and 4 monasteries (1 monastery of monks and 3 monasteries of nuns), in which a number of 137 clergymen (135 priests and 2 deacons) work.<\/p>\n

    SOLEMN YEAR OF THE DIASPORA<\/h4>\n

    The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church declared 2021 a Solemn Year of the pastoral care of Romanians outside Romania.<\/p>\n

    Data published in a recent report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) show that the Romanian diaspora is the fifth largest in the world, comprising about 2.3 million people.<\/p>\n
