{"id":375507,"date":"2022-06-08T13:58:44","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T10:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=375507"},"modified":"2022-06-08T14:01:14","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T11:01:14","slug":"world-oceans-day-an-opportunity-to-appreciate-the-gifts-received-from-the-creator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiva.basilica.ro\/en\/world-oceans-day-an-opportunity-to-appreciate-the-gifts-received-from-the-creator\/","title":{"rendered":"World Oceans Day, an opportunity to appreciate the gifts received from the Creator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/unworldoceansday.org\/\">World Oceans Day<\/a>, observed on June 8, is a suited time to raise awareness and appreciate these great gifts received from God.\u00a0 Oceans are the lungs of our Planet and a major source of food and medicine and a critical part of the biosphere.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The concept of World Oceans Day was originally proposed in 1992 by Canada\u2019s International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) at the Earth Summit \u2013 UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution officially recognizing June 8 to be \u201cWorld Oceans Day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world\u2019s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world\u2019s oceans.<\/p>\n<p>The Orthodox Church urges the protection and preservation of nature as a gift of God: \u201cDo not harm the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees!\u201d (Revelation 7: 3).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire creation is made for sanctification and blessing.
