The application was made by Romania in cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, because the cultural practice is common to both territories.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An amazing coincidence was that <a href=\"https:\/\/ich.unesco.org\/en\/RL\/the-art-of-the-traditional-blouse-with-embroidery-on-the-shoulder-alti-an-element-of-cultural-identity-in-romania-and-the-republic-of-moldova-01861\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the decision<\/a> was made in a session which started on November 30 and ended on December 1, 2022, which is the National Day of Romania.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The art of the traditional blouse with embroidery on the shoulder (called <em>alti\u021b\u0103<\/em>) is an essential part of Romanian and Moldovan folk dress for men and women. It juxtaposes a simple cut with rich and colourful ornamentations that are stitched using complex sewing techniques,\u201d writes UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p>The article on <a href=\"https:\/\/ich.unesco.org\/en\/RL\/the-art-of-the-traditional-blouse-with-embroidery-on-the-shoulder-alti-an-element-of-cultural-identity-in-romania-and-the-republic-of-moldova-01861\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the UNESCO website<\/a> includes a detailed description of the process of its making and of the final result, as well as photos:<\/p>\n<p>\u201eThe blouses are white and made of natural fibres (flax, cotton, hemp or floss silk), and the complex stitch combines horizontal, vertical and diagonal seams that result in a specific pattern and texture. The styles and techniques vary according to the region and the wearer\u2019s age, as well as to the skills of the women who create the blouses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The members of the <em>La Blouse Roumaine<\/em> community, which has promoted the Romanian blouse since 2013, greeted the moment on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Clnxbfmsrn7\/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=\">Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The most beautiful gift for December 1!\u201d they wrote. &#8220;Eternal gratitude to all our ancestors, who transmitted from one generation to the next our story about world and life inscribed on this people&#8217;s vestment of light!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_404650\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-404650\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/harta-motivelor-cusute-pe-ie-in-teritoriile-locuite-de-romani.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-404650 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/basilica.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/harta-motivelor-cusute-pe-ie-in-teritoriile-locuite-de-romani.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-404650\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A map of motifs sewn on Romanian blouses in the territories historically inhabited by Romanians.
