A new cultural monastic centre is being built at Rohia Monastery to honour the famous Romanian writer and Orthodox monk Nicolae Steinhardt whose main book, The Diary of Happiness, is regarded as a major text of 20th-century Romanian literature and a prime example of Eastern European anti-Communist literature.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week, Bishop Iustin of Maramures visited<\/a> the monastery to check the status of the new 10-storey building that will host cultural and spiritual events.<\/p>\n

As previously announced<\/a> by the monastery\u2019s abbot, the centre will include a library with over 5,000 books, a reading room, a conference room, the monastery\u2019s synodicon and a museum.<\/p>\n

Objects belonging to Fr Nicolae Steinhardt, the former Archbishop of Mararmures, Justinian Chira, and the monastery\u2019s abbots will be exhibited.<\/p>\n
