March 1888 – Rev. poet Alexei Mateevici was born in C\u0103in\u0103ri, county of <\/p>\n
Tighina. Studies at the Theological Seminary of Chi\u0219in\u0103u (1910) and at <\/p>\n
the Spiritual Academy of Kiev (1914). From 1914 – 1915 he was a priest <\/p>\n
and substitute professor at the Seminary of Chi\u0219in\u0103u. From 1911, he was a<\/p>\n
military priest on the battle-front in Gali\u021bia. He published poems with<\/p>\n
religious, patriotic, social content. The best known is “Our language”,<\/p>\n
considered the most beautiful poem in the Romanian literature dedicated<\/p>\n
to the language (at present the state anthem of the Republic of <\/p>\n
Moldova). He also published theological historical studies, translated <\/p>\n
short stories and poems from the Russian classic authors, and <\/p>\n
collaborated with several church and lay periodicals of Chi\u0219in\u0103u. He <\/p>\n
died on 13 August 1917 of typhus on the battle-front and was buried in <\/p>\n
