1822 – Metropolitan Calinic Miclescu was born in Suceava, to an old <\/p>\n
family of boyars. On 18 June 1842, his uncle Sofronie, the future <\/p>\n
Metropolitan of Moldova, tonsured him into monasticism. On 23 April <\/p>\n
1843, he was ordained hierodeacon, hieromonk on 31 November, then <\/p>\n
protosingel and archmandrite on 2 February 1855. From 1851 – 1958, he <\/p>\n
was abbot in Slatina, where he set up a school in M\u0103lini locality, for <\/p>\n
the peasants’ children. He was a member in the Ad Hoc Council, Bishop <\/p>\n
locum tenens in Hu\u0219i (November 1958 – January 1861), and then abbot <\/p>\n
again at Slatina (1861 – 1863), Metropolitan locum tenens of Moldova <\/p>\n
(from 7 May 1863), then on 31 May 1875, he is elected Primate <\/p>\n
Metropolitan, a position that he would hold till his death. On 11 April<\/p>\n
1876, he is elected president of the Senate. During his service, the <\/p>\n
courses of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Bucharest were begun, the<\/p>\n
Printing House for Church Books was set up and the autocephaly of the <\/p>\n
Romanian Orthodox Church was recognised (1885). On 14 August 1886, he <\/p>\n
