{"id":87493,"date":"2013-12-20T10:50:36","date_gmt":"2013-12-20T08:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/basilica.ro\/?p=87493"},"modified":"2016-03-25T21:17:19","modified_gmt":"2016-03-25T19:17:19","slug":"the-irenical-letter-the-patriarch-of-romania-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arhiva.basilica.ro\/en\/the-irenical-letter-the-patriarch-of-romania-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Irenical letter the Patriarch of Romania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of the Nativity of the Lord, A.D. 2013, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church addressed an Irenical letter to the Primates of the sister Orthodox Churches. We render below the content of this Irenical letter: &#8220;<em>I bring you Good News of great joy which will be for all the people. For there is born to you, this day, a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord<\/em>&#8221; (Luke 2:10-11) Today, the Church brings to all people <em>the Good News of the great joy<\/em> of the Nativity of our Saviour Jesus Christ, <em>the Source of full and imperishable joy<\/em> (cf. John 17:13). The Nativity of the Lord is the event to which heaven and earth participate, as the Psalmist foretold by saying &#8220;<em>Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice &#8230; for the Lord comes &#8230;<\/em>&#8221; (Psalm 96:11-12). The entire creation participates in this <em>unspeakable joy<\/em>, since it is the regained joy that Adam and Eve experienced in Paradise, before falling into disobedience and estrangement from God. Today, when very often the love and goodness of the heart are replaced with malice or indifference, when good actions are declining and the bad ones are multiplying, when few people become richer and very many poorer, <strong>the Gospel of the Nativity of Christ the Lord calls us Christians, who bear the name of Christ, to prayer and consultation, mission and social cooperation<\/strong>. Therefore, we must promote and cultivate multiplying goodness of the generous soul brought by the living faith in God and the relationship with Him through prayer and merciful love towards the humankind. May the holy light of the <em>Feasts of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the New Year and the Baptism of the Lord<\/em> bring you peace and good health, joy and help in the pastoral work you are undertaking.
