25 February 1769 \u2013 The future metropolitan Lupu Dionisie was born in Bl\u0103jani, county of Buz\u0103u. Monk in 1785, maybe at the Metropolitan See of Bucharest, he remained in its service; abbot at Dealu Monastery (1795 \u2013 1807), which he restores, then at Tismana (1807 \u2013 1810), titular hierarch (since 1801). In May 1819, he is elected and enthroned Metropolitan of Wallachia, serving till the time of the revolution of Tudor Vladimirescu (April \u2013 May 1821) when he left Bucharest, taking refuge in Bra\u0219ov; back in Bucharest only in 1827. As Metropolitan, he paid all the debts of the Metropolitan See, took measures in favour of the priests, removing many of the abuses of the “Phanariot epoch\u201d; he supervised the schools in the eparchy, sent four young men to study at the University of Pisa.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
