February 1923 \u2013 Bishop Nifon Niculescu (baptized Nicolae) passed away<\/p>\n
in Bucharest. He studied at the “Central\u201d Seminary (1872 \u2013 1880) and at<\/p>\n
the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest (1888 \u2013 1892). Deacon at the<\/p>\n
“White\u201d and “Cre\u021bulescu\u201d (1882) churches of Bucharest, priest at the<\/p>\n
“White\u201d church (1883 \u2013 1895), eparchial inspector at the Metropolitan<\/p>\n
See of Ungrowallachia (since 1881), director of the Holy Synod Office<\/p>\n
and religion professor in Bucharest and Ploie\u0219ti. When a widower, he was<\/p>\n
tonsured into monasticism at Cernica Monastery (1895); he is ordained<\/p>\n
hierarch and will operate as Assistant Hierarch at the Metropolitan See<\/p>\n
of Ungrowallachia, with the title of “Ploie\u0219teanul\u201d (1895 \u2013 1909).<\/p>\n
Elected Bishop of Lower Danube, seated in Gala\u021bi (22 March 1909) he<\/p>\n
serves since enthronement (26 March 1909) till his retirement form the<\/p>\n
chair (1 January 1922). He served as hierarch at the church of “Domnita<\/p>\n
Balasa\u201d of Bucharest till his death. Intense urban activity in the<\/p>\n
eparchy, especially for the monasteries of Dobrudgea. During his service<\/p>\n
he consecrated the Episcopal Cathedral of Gala\u021bi (6 August 1917), of<\/p>\n
which foundation stone had been laid in 1906. He was president of the<\/p>\n
Administration Committee of the Library of “V.A. Urechia\u201d in Gala\u021bi. He<\/p>\n
