March 1914 \u2013 Bishop VISARION A\u0218TILEANU was born in Cluj (baptized<\/p>\n
Vasile). Studies at the Secondary School of “George Bari\u021biu\u201d of Cluj<\/p>\n
(1925-1933), at the United Theological Academy of Cluj (1933- 1935) and<\/p>\n
at the “De Propaganda Fide\u201d College of Rome (1935 \u2013 1942), where he got<\/p>\n
his license (1941) and doctor\u2019s degree (1942). Eparchial secretary and<\/p>\n
priest in Cluj (1942-1949). Back into the Orthodox Church in 1958, he<\/p>\n
became inspector and then patriarchal counselor (1958-1962); tonsured<\/p>\n
into monasticism, with the name of Visarion, and ordained Assistant<\/p>\n
Bishop to the Patriarch (1962-1969), Assistant Bishop to the<\/p>\n
Metropolitan See of Transylvania (1969 \u2013 1973), then Bishop of Arad<\/p>\n
(1973-1984). He supervised the activity of the eparchy, re-opened the<\/p>\n
Monastery of Prislop, and was very much concerned with the valuation of<\/p>\n
the cultural-artistic patrimony; he drafted the book Monastery of<\/p>\n
Hodos-Bodrog (Arad, 1980). He published studies on the re-completion of<\/p>\n
the Church of Transylvania, reportages, sermons, reviews in the<\/p>\n
magazines: “Biserica Ortodox\u0103 Rom\u00e2n\u0103\u201d, “Mitropolia Ardealului\u201d,<\/p>\n
“Mitropolia Banatului\u201d, “Telegraful Rom\u00e2n\u201d a.s.o.<\/p>\n
