March 1955 \u2013 hierarch VENIAMIN POCITAN passed away at Cernica<\/p>\n
Monastery (born 5 December 1870, in Ciuma\u0219i, county of Bacau). Studies<\/p>\n
at the Inferior Seminary of Roman (1884 \u2013 1888), at “Nifon\u201d Seminary<\/p>\n
(1890 \u2013 1993), then at the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest (1893 \u2013<\/p>\n
1897), where he graduates (1897), and later on gets his doctor\u2019s degree<\/p>\n
(1926); in parallel he attended the Law Faculty (1898). Priest at<\/p>\n
“Saints Voievodes\u201d church of Bucharest (1897 \u2013 1928), transferred as<\/p>\n
superior of the Romanian Orthodox chapel in Paris (1914 \u2013 1915), deputy<\/p>\n
chief of the Religious Service of the Great General Headquarters of the<\/p>\n
Romanian Army (1916 \u2013 1922); in parallel Religion professor at “Matei<\/p>\n
Basarab\u201d Secondary School, at the University Pedagogical Seminary of<\/p>\n
“Titu Maiorescu\u201d of Bucharest; the first president of the Central<\/p>\n
Spiritual Consistory (1926). In 1929, the Holy Synod elected him<\/p>\n
assistant bishop to the Diocese of Hu\u0219i, with the title of “B\u00e2rladeanul\u201d<\/p>\n
(tonsured into monasticism at Neam\u021b, with the name Veniamin, ordained<\/p>\n
on 23 June 1919), locum tenens Bishop of Hu\u0219i (1932- 1934), assistant<\/p>\n
bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, with the title of “Ploie\u0219teanul\u201d<\/p>\n
(1935 \u2013 1948).<\/p>\n
Works. He wrote studies on some dissolved eparchies,<\/p>\n
on certain ecclesiastic personalities of the 19th century, as well as<\/p>\n
the first studies on the Romanian Orthodox communities in “Diaspora\u201d; a)<\/p>\n
Catechetic Schools in the Eparchy of Hu\u0219i (1930); the Eparchy of<\/p>\n
