March 1989 \u2013 Writer, philosopher, jurist, monk NICOLAE STEINHARDT<\/p>\n
passed away at Rohia Monastery, county of Maramure\u0219. Studies at “Spiru<\/p>\n
Haret\u201d Secondary School of Bucharest (1922 \u2013 1929), at the Faculties of<\/p>\n
Philology and Law of the University of Bucharest (1929 \u2013 1934), with a<\/p>\n
doctor\u2019s degree in law (1936), specialisation in France (Paris) and<\/p>\n
England (1936 \u2013 1939). Lawyer in the Bar of Bucharest. Arrested in 1959<\/p>\n
in the “group of the mystic-religious intellectuals\u201d and sentenced to 12<\/p>\n
years of “forced labour\u201d for “having plotted against the state social<\/p>\n
order\u201d. Baptised in the prison of Jilava (15 March 1960) by hieromonk<\/p>\n
Mina Dobzeu. Released in August 1964, later on he joined the community<\/p>\n
of Rohia Monastery where he was tonsured into monasticism on 16 August<\/p>\n
1980, with the name of Nicolae, and where he lived till he died. Works:<\/p>\n
