April 1825 \u2013 Archimandrite SCRIBAN THEOCTIST (baptised Hristofor) was<\/p>\n
born in Ad\u00e2ncata village, county of Suceava. Studies at “Vasilian\u201d<\/p>\n
Gymnasium and Mihailean Academy of Ia\u0219i, theological studies at Socola<\/p>\n
Seminary (graduated in 1874), then at the Spiritual Academy of Kiev<\/p>\n
(1847 \u2013 1851). Professor at Socola Seminary (1851 \u2013 1857), tonsured into<\/p>\n
monasticism and ordained hieromonk (1856), awarded the title of<\/p>\n
archimandrite (1857), president of the new Eparchial Consistory of<\/p>\n
Ismail (1857 \u2013 1863); professor at the “Central\u201d Seminary of Bucharest<\/p>\n
(1864 \u2013 1872), retired, then, for a short while, Director of Socola<\/p>\n
Seminary (1884 \u2013 1885).<\/p>\n
Works: He published didactic manuals,<\/p>\n
adapted or translated. He translated from Russian: Homiletics by Iacob<\/p>\n
Amfiteatrov (2 volumes, 1856 \u2013 1858) and other works; he published the<\/p>\n
book “Church sermons on Sundays, feasts and funerals\u201d (1867); from 1870 \u2013<\/p>\n
1872 he edited the “Church Voice\u201d magazine in Bucharest, in which he<\/p>\n
published many sermons, most of them translated from St. Gregory the<\/p>\n
Theologian (some of them published in a brochure). He passed away on 11<\/p>\n
