May 2002 \u2013 Priest and journalist VASILE \u021aEPORDEI passed away. Studies<\/p>\n
at the Theological Seminary (1929) and at the Faculty of Theology in<\/p>\n
Chi\u0219in\u0103u (graduated in 1933). He was Religion professor at various<\/p>\n
secondary schools in Chi\u0219in\u0103u (1935-1940; 1941-1944) and in Bucharest<\/p>\n
(1940-1941; 1944-1948). Ever since a student he collaborated with<\/p>\n
several church publications, turning out to be a rather good journalist<\/p>\n
(Lumin\u0103torul, Misionarul, Studentul, etc.). He was editor in chief of<\/p>\n
the “Raza\u201d newspaper. Priest (1939), iconomos (1942), iconom stavrofor<\/p>\n
(1947). In September 1948 he was arrested, in 1949 judged by a Soviet<\/p>\n
military court, in Constanta city, and sentenced to 25 years of forced<\/p>\n
labour. He spent eight years in prison in several Siberian camps, the<\/p>\n
last one in Vorcuta, beyond the Polar Circle. He speaks of this period<\/p>\n
of his life in the book “Memories from Gulag\u201d (1992, Bucharest). He was<\/p>\n
released in 1956, returned to Romania and was re-admitted to priesthood,<\/p>\n
as parish priest in Islaz, county of Ilfov (1956-1966) and at “M\u0103rcu\u021ba\u201d<\/p>\n
