7 July 1938 \u2013 Archbishop VASILE COSTIN was born in Satu Nou de Sus,<\/p>\n
county of Maramure\u0219. Studies at the Theological Seminary of Cluj (1954 \u2013<\/p>\n
1959), at the Theological Institute of Sibiu (1959 \u2013 1963), courses for<\/p>\n
a doctor\u2019s degree \u2013 in Liturgics \u2013 at the Theological Institute of<\/p>\n
Bucharest (1963 \u2013 1966); specialised courses at the Faculty of Theology<\/p>\n
of the University of Athens and at the Institute of Coptic Archaeology<\/p>\n
in Cairo (1967 \u2013 1972), a doctor\u2019s degree in theology in Athens in March<\/p>\n
1972, validated in Bucharest, on 21 March 1974. Employed at the<\/p>\n
Department for Church Foreign Relations of the Romanian Patriarchate<\/p>\n
(1969), eparchial secretary (1972 \u2013 1973) and Administrative vicar of<\/p>\n
the Diocese of Oradea (1973 \u2013 1975); ordained unmarried deacon, priest,<\/p>\n
tonsured into monasticism at Izbuc Monastery (1974) and ordained<\/p>\n
archimandrite. “Superior\u201d of the Romanian settlement in Jerusalem and<\/p>\n
representative of the Romanian Patriarchate at the Patriarchate of<\/p>\n
Jerusalem (1975 \u2013 1979). He was elected Assistant Bishop to the<\/p>\n
Patriarch (10 December 1979) with the title of “T\u00e2rgovi\u0219teanul\u201d<\/p>\n
(ordained on 20 January 1980; rector of the University Theological<\/p>\n
Institute of Bucharest (16 November 1982 \u2013 1 August 1988). On 3<\/p>\n
September 1991 he was elected Archbishop of T\u00e2rgovi\u0219te, a new Eparchy<\/p>\n
(installed on 22 September 1991). He was a member of the delegations of<\/p>\n
our Church who visited other Orthodox Churches (The Ecumenical<\/p>\n
Patriarchate in 1974 and 1978, the Russian Church in 1980), participated<\/p>\n
in the 2nd Preparatory Pre-synodal Conference of the Holy Great<\/p>\n
Pan-Orthodox Synod (Chambesy, 1982), in the 6th General Assembly of the<\/p>\n
World Council of Churches (Vancouver 1983), etc. He passed away on 29<\/p>\n
October 1999, in Bucharest, buried in the Archiepiscopal Cathedral of<\/p>\n
