August 1844 – Priest ȘTEFAN CĂLINESCU, seminary professor and author of
didactic manuals was born in Bălăria (today’s Valea Plopului). Studies
at the “Central” Seminary – photo – (1863 – 1870), followed by courses
at the Faculty of Philology and Philosophy of Bucharest. He worked as
professor of Religion at the “Michael the Brave” Gymnasium (1871 –
1876), then professor of theology and classic languages at the “Central”
Seminary (1876 – 1904), as well as at “Nifon” Seminary (1874 – 1915),
both of them in Bucharest. He served as priest at “Saint Ecaterina”
church of Bucharest. He passed away on 6 March 1921 in Bucharest.

Treaty of Saint John Chrysostom on priesthood (translation 1882);
Attempts of church literature: speeches, homilies, biographies, etc
(1893); History of the Central Seminary of Bucharest (co-author, 1904);
Counsellor for the pastoral activity of the priest (908); he edited
manuals of Dogmatics and Symbolics, Morals, Church History, Old
Testament, New Testament and Grammar for the primary forms and seminary;
he was editor and collaborator to a series of church publications:
Ortodoxul, Viitorul, Vocea clerului, Consolatorul and Voința Bisericii.
