20 April 1828 – GHEORGHE UCENESCU – composer, professor, religious singer, copiyst, calligrapher and editor, was born in Sibiu. He begins his studies at the Capital School (primary school) in Scheii Brasovului (graduates in 1843) with hierodeacon Varlaam Baranescu (psalter music), and continues them in Bucharest (1851 – 1853), with Anton Pann (religious music, printing technique), as scholar of the church of St Nicholas of Brasov. Teacher and religious singer at the church of the Holy Trinity “de pe Tocile” of Brasov (1843 – 1849), religious singer atthe church of Saint Nicholas of Brasov (1854 – 1896), “teacher of religious music” at the “Norm School” of Brasov (1854 – 1888) and music professor at the Gymnasium of Brasov (1856 – 1888). He wrote the manuscripts: Music book with psalter notes written by G. Ucenescu, student of Mr. Anton Pan(n), in 1852, 568 chants (Ms. No. 3497, Bucharest, 1979 – Romanian Academy Library), Tractatu teoretico-practicu de musica ecclesiastica gr, orientală. Maiu. 1881 (Ms. rom. nr. 4819 – Romanian Academy Library). He passed away on 21 January 1896, in Brasov.
