“Meal of Joy” Programme Extended

Wednesday, 10 February 2016, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, received, in Patriarch Teoctist Hall of the Patriarchal Residence, the visit of a few representatives of Carrefour Romania. The event marked the extension at national level of the “Meal of Joy” social-philanthropic programme.

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate presents the following:

Starting from the common will to support the social disadvantaged categories of people, the Romanian Patriarchateand Carrefour Romaniadecided to extend the “Meal of Joy” Programme, a programme which is a social practical need today, with a deep spiritual significance inspired by the Gospel of Christ’s love for all people, especially for those in difficulty.

After the unfolding the partnership between the above-mentioned institutions in a first stage at the level of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, the partners thought it was possible and necessary to extend it at the level of the entire country, involving all supermarket and hypermarket stores of the Carrefour network.

Since a good deed, coming from merciful and selfless love has a spiritual light and becomes a treasure of the soul for eternity, the Church always remembers in its services the founders and the merciful benefactors, thus cultivating a culture of generosity or benevolence and being convinced that “a gift form a gift becomes heaven” as concisely and wisely expressed by the Romanian people. This is why the Romanian Patriarchate thanks, on behalf of all beneficiaries, the leadership of the two partner companies, Carrefour and Selgros, for the openness and professionalism shown by extending the programme. The Romanian Patriarchate also thanks all the employees of the social and philanthropic settlements who contribute to the good development of this programme with deep humanitarian significance.
