PROGRAMME OF THE MANIFESTATIONS ORGANISED ON THE OCCASION OF THE PILGRIMAGE TO THE FEAST OF SAINT PIOUS DIMITRIOS THE NEW, PROTECTOR OF BUCHAREST

From 24 – 29 October 2013, on the occasion of the annual pilgrimage to the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest (celebrated on 27 October), whose relics are kept in the Patriarchal Cathedral, the Romanian Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of Bucharest organises, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, a series of manifestations, held according to the following programme:

At 11.00 hours, after the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the procession of the Way of the Saints will take place, the holy relics of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest leaving from the Patriarchal Cathedral to Queen Maria Ave. At 11.00 hours too, the holy relics of Saint Great Martyr Artemie, general in the army of Saint Emperor Constantine the Great, kept for veneration at Caldarusani Monastery, close to Bucharest, will be brought in procession to the church of Saint Spiridon the New.

The two processions will meet at the Holy stone Cross at the foot of the Patriarchate Hill, where at 11.30 hours, the miracle worker icon of Saint Empress Helen, in which particles of the Holy Wood of the Holy Cross and relics of Saint Helen are kept, and the historical icon of Saint Emperor Constantine the Great brought by a delegation of the Church of Greece headed by His Eminence Dionisie, Metropolitan of Corinth, will be met.

Then, the icons of Saint Empress Helen and of Saint Emperor Constantine the Great as well as the Holy Relics of Saint Great Martyr Artemie and of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, will be brought in procession up to the special podium arranged close to the Patriarchal Cathedral. Here, they will be met by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, together with hierarchs of the Holy Synod and then, will be laid under the canopy on the Patriarchate Hill to be venerated by the clergy and faithful till Tuesday, 29 October 2013.

At 17.00 hours, a commemorative festivity will be held and an exhibition of photographs and original documents dedicated to the academician priest Niculae M. Popescu at the anniversary of his passing away (1963) will be opened at the Holy Synod Library at Antim Monastery.

Saturday, 25 October 2013, the feast of Saint Great Martyr Dimitrios, the Myrrh Bearer

At 9.15 hours, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by His Eminence Dionisie, Metropolitan of Corinth, assisted by a group of hierarchs, priests and deacons on the podium specially arranged in the yard of the Patriarchal Cathedral.

Sunday, 27 October 2013, the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest

From 6.30 – 8.00 hours, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Patriarchal Cathedral for the faithful who want to have the Holy Communion.

At 9.30 hours, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will celebrate the Divine Liturgy assisted by a group of Orthodox hierarchs from the country and abroad, priests and deacons, on the podium near the Patriarchal Cathedral.

At 18.00 hours, the final stage of the 6th edition of the national choral contest of religious music entitled Praise the Lord, will be held in Patriarch Teoctist Aula Magna of the Patriarchate Palace, organised by the Theological Educational Department of the Romanian Patriarchate. The six parochial mix choruses winners of the contests held in every metropolitanate of the country will compete. The event will be broadcast live by Trinitas radio and television stations of the Romanian Patriarchate.

Monday, 28 October 2013, feast of Saint Hierarch Iachint of Vicina:

At 9.00 hours, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by a group of hierarchs, priests and deacons in the Patriarchal Cathedral.

At 12.00 hours, the solemn meeting of the Holy Synod on the theme 2013 – Solemn year of Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen and “Dumitru Staniloae” Commemorative year in the Romanian Patriarchate will be held in Patriarch Teoctist Aula Magna of the Patriarchate Palace, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. The most important manifestations with religious – spiritual, social – medical and media character organised this year by the eparchies from the country and abroad of the Romanian Patriarchate will be presented in synthesis and estimated. To end with the solemn synodal meeting, the editorial publications recently appeared at the publishing houses of the Romanian Patriarchate and of the Archdiocese of Bucharest will be presented.

The solemn meeting will be broadcast live by Trinitas radio and television stations of the Romanian Patriarchate.

To start with the Holy Synod working session convened at the Patriarchal Residence, Tuesday, 29 October 2013, 7.30 hours, the hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in the Patriarchal Cathedral followed by a Te Deum service (9.30 hours).

The delegation of the Church of Greece headed by His Eminence Metropolitan of Corinth who brought the icon of Saint Empress Helen in which particles of the Holy Wood of the Holy Cross and relics of the Saint are kept, and the historical icon of Saint Emperor Constantine the Great will go back to Greece Tuesday, 29 October 2013, 15.00 hours.

The manifestations organised on the occasion of the pilgrimage to the feast of Saint Pious Dimitrios the New, Protector of Bucharest, are part of the calendar events of 2013 – Solemn year of Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen and “Dumitru Staniloae” Commemorative Year in the Romanian Patriarchate.
