On the second day of Christmas hundreds of faithful were present at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Ciprian Campineanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, assisted by a group of priests and deacons.
After reading the Evangelical pericope of this great feast, His Grace read, on behalf of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the Pastoral letter at the Nativity of the Lord 2012 of the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church entitled For us men and for our salvation.
The liturgical answers were given by Nicolae Lungu Chorus of the Patriarchal Cathedral.
On the second day of Christmas the Orthodox Church celebrates the Synaxis of the Mother of God, one of the oldest feasts in the honour of Virgin Mary dating from the 5th century. Saint Nicodim of Tismana is celebrated today, too. He lived in the 14th century (1340) and founded several Romanian monasteries and formed several hermit disciples who enriched the spiritual life of our Church. He was born in a family of Wallachians living in the South of the Danube, at Prilep, in Macedonia.
